There are only a few actors in the Bollywood industry who have managed to keep them clean in their entire spanning career and amongst those, one of the most sought-after actors of the Bollywood industry happens to be the Khiladi, Akshay Kumar. With having an inspiring journey from a chef to becoming one of the greatest actors of the industry, Akshay Kumar has stood some major goals and has become an inspiration to many. One of the fittest actors of the industry who is highly peculiar about his lifestyle, Akshay Kumar has been responsible for delivering various cult classics to the industry that are still denoted as the most brilliant works in the industry.
With a career spanning over 29 years, this actor has reached heights following immense hard work and sheer talent. Born as Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia, the actor has appeared in over 100 films and began his career back in 1991 with the film Saugandh. Grabbing various trophies and accolades under his name, the actor has maintained his position as one of the top-notch actors of the industry. While we already know about the brilliant films starring the actor, it’s time to take a look at the astounding list of some renowned projects turned down by the actor. Let’s have a look:
Race – Released in 2008
Brilliant work by Abbas Mastan, this action thriller film marked its release in 2008. While the mind-blowing twists and turns in the plot of the film still manage to astound the audiences, it’s highly surprising to know that the “Khiladi” actor Akshay Kumar was approached to play a lead in the film. With an ensemble cast of brilliant actors such as Saif Ali Khan, Anil Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif, and various others, the film could have been even more exciting if Akshay would have agreed to be a part of the film. Being approached for the lead role played by Saif, the actor rejected the offer due to some unknown reasons, breaking the heart of its makers, Abbas Mastan. Rated as 6.7 on IMDB, the film was able to make a business of rupees 570.13 crores.
Baazigar – Released in 1993
Right from having a brilliant cast to exceptional music and a well-written story plot, this film became a career-changing project for the actor, Shah Rukh Khan. This 1993 thriller film starred Shahrukh Khan in a negative role and again it was a work by the famous duo Abbas Mastan. Initially approaching the “Dabangg” actor, Salman Khan for the lead role, the actor refused to be a part of the film and hence turned down the offer. Post being rejected by Salman, the makers went on to rope in Akshay Kumar for the lead role however, he also went on to turn down the role following the negative impact on his image that would be created after opting for a villainous role.
However, to our utter surprise, the actor later agreed to play a negative part in the Abbas Mastan movie Ajnabee which became a huge success.
A Hollywood project
Being highly choosy upon the roles and scripts taken up by the actor looks like his experience has better taught the actor about the peculiarity of the roles. While we certainly know about the brilliant projects taken up by the actor and even had some idea about his rejected movies, it’s highly surprising to know that the actor was even approached by the Hollywood industry to play a part in World wrestling entertainment studios creation. With featuring the handsome hulk, The Rock Dwayne Johnson, this could have been a career-changing project for Akshay Kumar. However, the actor came forward to turn down the role stating the reason for not being convinced with the character offered to him.
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag – Released in 2013
Biopic of the late sports person, Milkha Singh, this biographical sports drama by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra became a blockbuster at the box office. Still residing in the hearts of audiences, the sheer brilliance of the actors and the script of the film made it being named amongst the sixth highest-grossing Bollywood films of 2013. While we all are satisfied with the exceptional performance delivered by the actor Farhan Akhtar, little did we know that Akshay Kumar was approached to play the lead role of “The Flying Sikh”. However, Akshay declined the role mentioning not being satisfied with the script which is certainly one of the biggest regrets that could have been held by the actor.
The song “Character Dheela Hai” from the movie Ready – Released in 2011
An action-comedy film by Anees Bazmee, this film received mixed reviews from critics. However, being highly praised for its music and some hilarious elements, its titular song, character dheela hai became one of the big hits of that time and was on the mouths of every other individual. Starring Zarine Khan and Salman Khan as the lead faces in the song, this music piece was actually picturized for the actor Akshay Kumar. Being planned to be included in Akshay Kumar starrer, Khatta Meetha in 2010, the song could not materialize due to some unknown reasons relating to the actor Akshay Kumar who became a hindrance in the inclusion of the song in his movie.
