10 Huge Roles Rejected By Madhuri Dixit In Her Career.

Rightfully addressed as the dhak dhak girl of Bollywood, Madhuri Dixit has been one of the most sought-after actresses of Bollywood. With making us all groove over her steps, the actress can still turn down anyone with her bright shining smile. The impressive dancing and acting skills of the actress made her name amongst one of the top-notch actresses of the nineties.

Having appeared in a number of Bollywood blockbusters like Tezaab, hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Dil to pagal Hai, lajja, anjam etc. The actress has worked in over 70 films so far. Even being embraced with the highest honour of Padma Shri in 2008, Madhuri Dixit Nene is still remembered for her cult classics. While we already drool over her brilliance in various Bollywood films, it’s quite surprising to know about various films that she turned down to be a part of. Let’s have a look:

Aaina – Juhi Chawla role

Surrounding the love, jealousy and hatred between two sisters this film was appreciated for its remarkable content starring Amrita Singh Jackie Shroff and Juhi Chawla in leading roles. This film was an eye-opener for any girl who has always been arrogant about their beauty. With Juhi Chawla portraying the role of Reema, a sobre and kind-hearted woman who was seen as a nerd towards the beginning of the film and transforms into a beautiful woman as the film transitions towards the end. The role was initially offered to Madhuri Dixit who turned down the offer saying that she couldn’t connect herself well with the character.

Khamoshi – Manisha Koirala

A Musical film that still remains one of the most underrated films of the Bollywood industry. Released in 1996 this film is rated as 7.5 on IMDb. Starring Manisha Koirala Nana Patekar and Salman Khan in the lead roles, this film by Sanjay Leela Bhansali became one of the brilliant creations of that time. While Sanjay was highly eager to work with Madhuri Dixit, he initially approached the actress for casting her as a lead. However, since the actress had a really busy schedule she turned down the role and later appeared in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas.

Hum saath saath Hain – Tabu

We certainly can’t express the brilliance of this film in words. Revolving around the family relations persisting in the Indian family, this film still remains one of the evergreen movies of the Bollywood industry. While we all feel that the role portrayed by Tabu was extremely brilliant and she did full justice to the role, it’s really surprising to note that this role was initially offered to the actress Madhuri Dixit. However, being highly opinionated about the script back at that time the actress didn’t find the story very powerful and rejected the role.

Darr – Juhi Chawla

Probably one of the iconic Bollywood movies that became a career changer for the actor Shahrukh Khan, this film is still recorded as one of the best works by the industry. While we already know enough about the plot and characters of the film it’s highly surprising to note that there were a number of contenders who were in line before Shahrukh Khan was finally roped in. And as for the female lead before the actor Juhi Chawla was finally cast as the leading lady of the film this role was initially offered to the actress Madhuri Dixit. But again due to her busy schedules, the actress could not sign for the film.

1942 A Love story – Manisha Koirala

Looks like the actress Madhuri Dixit was mostly offered the roles of Juhi and Manisha. A cult classic romantic film of Bollywood, this film included a set of brilliant songs amongst the h the song ek ladki Ko Dekha to Aisa Laga is still murmured by the fans. With makers wanting to cast Madhuri Dikshit as the female lead opposite Anil Kapoor the actress turned down the hopes of potty audiences and the makers by rejecting the role. While Anil and Madhuri had always been prominent Jodi of the silver screen, the makers were highly excited to cast them in the film 1942 A Love story. However, after the actress rejected the role, this role finally went to Manisha Koirala.

Hum Dil De chuke Sanam – Aishwarya Rai

While we certainly can’t imagine any other actress in the skin of the character played by Aishwarya in the film Hum Dil de chuke Sanam, it’s highly surprising to note that this film was initially offered to Madhuri Dixit. Imagine Madhuri Dikshit playing the role of Nandini! This would certainly have been one of the most delightful projects for the actress if she would have agreed to be its part. However, since Madhuri rejected the role it finally went to Aishwarya which made her become a star overnight.

Sapnay – Kajol

Phoolon ke bhavre Jo haule haule gaaye! Remember the fairy look of the actress Kajol in the song!? A musical love story starring the prominent actors like Prabhu Deva, Arvind Swamy and Kajol in the lead roles, this film was highly appreciated by the audiences and became one of the prominent works in the Bollywood industry. While we still drool over the acting and songs of the film, it was also highly appreciated for its filmography. Being the role first offered to the actress Madhuri Dixit, she turned down the role due to some unknown reasons.

Chandni – Juhi Chawla

Released in the year 1989 Chandni was a success at box office with Rishi Kapoor, Vinod Khanna and Sridevi in lead roles. Juhi Chawla played the character of Devika in the film and Juhi’s role was first offered to Madhuri Dixit. Even Though Juhi’s role was not a major one in the movie, but she appeared in the iconic song “Lagi aaj sawan ki phir wo jhadi hai”. Juhi Chawla was a new actress at that time and she also got to play the lead character in Yash Raj’s movie Darr released in the year 1993.

Damini – Meenakshi Sheshadri

The movie is still remembered today for brilliant acting by actors like Sunny Deol, Rishi Kapoor, Meenakshi Sheshadri and Amrish Puri. The dialogue “2.5 kilo ka haath” by Sunny Deol is still in our memories. It is one of the most popular movies in Meenakshi’s career. Madhuri Dixit could not be part of the movie due to date issues.

Baazigar – Shilpa Shetty

Another hit movie in which we didn’t see Madhuri Dixit. The movie had two prominent actresses, Kajol and Shila Shetty. Shilpa Shetty’s role was offered to Madhuri and as per rumors Madhuri was offered Rs 25 Lakhs at that time to play the role but she rejected the role as she didn’t want to play the second lead actress.
